All UConn entities (e.g. schools, departments, programs, labs, etc.) must use University hosting. Exceptions require formal University approval.
Primary Hosting Solution
Our primary hosting solution is Aurora, a multisite WordPress service, supported by Information Technology Services’ Web Development Lab.
Alternative University Hosting
If you have a web project that requires hosting other than Aurora (WordPress) due to technical requirements or other special circumstances, please review the options below.
- If the content will be accessible to the UConn community or public, please email webstandards@uconn.edu with details about your project.
- For projects that will be kept locally or private for research purposes, please begin a conversation with your local IT support team.
External Web Hosting
University entities may not purchase or use external web hosting services or domain registration without prior written approval from University Communications. This requirement ensures appropriate oversight of accessibility, information security, privacy regulations, brand standards, and more.
Procurement Notice
Effective July 24, 2025, Procurement notified the University community that web hosting services and website domain registration are restricted for purchase on the University Pro Card.
Exceptions & Prior Purchases
If you have external web hosting or domains that were purchased prior to Procurement’s notice or need to be reviewed as an exception due to special circumstances, please complete the External Domain & Hosting Review form. Your submission will be reviewed and we will work with you on one of the following scenarios:
